Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Biological and Life Sciences (JBLS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity. We take plagiarism very seriously and follow a strict policy to prevent and address any instances of plagiarism in the articles submitted for publication. Our plagiarism policy ensures that all research published in the journal is original, properly referenced, and ethically sound.

Key Aspects of the Plagiarism Policy:

  1. Definition of Plagiarism: Plagiarism is defined as the use of another person's ideas, data, text, or work without proper acknowledgment, whether intentionally or unintentionally. This includes:

    • Copying and pasting text or data from other sources without citation.
    • Paraphrasing someone else's work without proper attribution.
    • Submitting work that has been previously published without permission (self-plagiarism).
    • Using figures, tables, or other content without appropriate credit.
  2. Plagiarism Detection:

    • To ensure the originality of submitted manuscripts, JBLS uses plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate) to screen all manuscripts before they undergo the peer review process.
    • Authors are encouraged to check their work for proper citations and originality before submission.
  3. Actions in Case of Plagiarism: If plagiarism is detected at any stage of the submission or publication process, the following actions may be taken:

    • Initial Detection: If plagiarism is detected during the submission process, the manuscript will be returned to the author for revision, and the author will be asked to properly cite all sources or revise the manuscript to eliminate plagiarized content.
    • Peer Review Stage: If plagiarism is identified during the peer review process, the manuscript may be rejected. The author will be informed of the specific instances of plagiarism, and the manuscript will not proceed further.
    • Post-Publication: If plagiarism is identified after the article has been published, JBLS will issue a retraction notice. The article will remain available online with a clear statement indicating the reason for retraction.
  4. Consequences of Plagiarism:

    • Authors found guilty of plagiarism may face severe consequences, including rejection of the manuscript, blacklisting from future submissions, or reporting the incident to the author's academic institution or funding body.
    • JBLS follows strict ethical guidelines to maintain the integrity of the academic record and to protect the reputation of the authors, reviewers, and the journal.
  5. Ethical Responsibility of Authors:

    • Authors must ensure that their work is original and properly cited. Any ideas, data, or content that is not their own must be appropriately credited to the original source.
    • Authors should be mindful of self-plagiarism and ensure that previously published work is only reused with proper citation, or by obtaining permission from the original publisher if necessary.
  6. Transparency:

    • JBLS is committed to transparency in the handling of plagiarism cases. If plagiarism is identified, we will provide clear, fair, and objective communication with the authors involved and take appropriate actions according to the severity of the situation.
  7. Promoting Ethical Practices:

    • JBLS encourages authors to familiarize themselves with best practices in citation and referencing. Authors should ensure that all sources are cited accurately and consistently.
    • The journal provides guidelines to assist authors in properly referencing materials, including journals, books, and other academic works.

Through this plagiarism policy, JBLS maintains the integrity of the scientific literature and ensures that all published research is original, credible, and ethically responsible. This fosters a trusted academic environment where ideas and knowledge can be shared and built upon without the threat of academic misconduct.
